Some of the most impressive achievements in our local areas come from the sportsmen and sportswomen who drag themselves out of bed in all weathers, battling with thir physical and mental limits while the rest of us are still chomping our breakfast cereal.
So Local World would like to honour them once again. We're inviting our readers to nominate their 'sporting heroes' from each area. After London 2012 it's easy to point out the nationally-celebrated winners, but we're also looking for everyday success: the sports coach who gives up his weekends to give young people a sense of purpose; the team who fused themselves together and pushed on to league success; the player overcoming personal adversity.
Readers then vote for the winners, who will attend a glitzy awards evening with celebrity hosts. We go out of our way to make local matter more, but it couldn't happen without the wonderful response from our readers.
The 2013 Heart of Essex Campaign in association with Anglia Ruskin University, Essex & Suffolk Water, Spencer Anne's Catering and Hylands House is back.
This is our chance to help a good cause in our area win a share of £8,000.
The aim is to recognise and reward local groups for the outstanding work and contributions they make within our communities.
This all culminates in a glamorous awards evening on 4th July at the gorgeous Hylands House, dinner and drinks will be provided by the popular Spencer Anne's Catering.
Nominations may be shortlisted by our panel to be included in the Heart of Essex supplement, which will feature pictures and details of each nomination. Our readers will then be invited to vote for the project they believe should receive a cash award.
